We were once again delighted, as part of our ongoing schools engagement, to welcome thirteen secondary school pupils from Fraserburgh Academy for a work experience week between 21st and 25th May.
The five girls and eight boys were assigned to several sectors within Score Group in Peterhead including the pressure safety valve division, engineering workshops and administration departments. During the week, they were mentored and supervised by senior members of the Score team who got them involved in actual work operations within the company. All departments reported back at the end of the week that each of the pupils performed really well allowing them to get a taste of the real work environment and situations. This included safety practices, problem solving, mechanical engineering, communications and IT skills.
This work experience week usually takes place early in the pupils 4th year but has now been changed to end of 3rd year for academic purposes. Despite this, it was noted that most showed a good level of maturity towards the experience with them stating they had a far greater appreciation of both work expectations and Score Group as a company. A number of them also expressed an interest in applying for apprenticeships with Score next year.
Score proactively engages with local secondary schools with the aim of providing pupils with engineering and administration experience and careers advice to aid them when making future career choices. We are aiming to employ over 100 apprentices globally within Score Group this calendar year including a large number within the Peterhead area. If you would like information on any of the apprenticeship schemes we offer, contact us and a member of our HR or Apprenticeship Co-ordinators will be delighted to provide further information.
