Engineering Manager (Gas Turbines – Peterhead)

The Engineering Manager will hold overall responsibility across all engineering tasks within Score Energy. These tasks may be of own direction and implementation or may be through delegation to other engineering and / or production team members; however it will be their responsibility to ensure action, completion and closure to the satisfaction of the required and assigned section of the business, in accordance with Engineering procedures laid out within the Score Energy operating systems.

All work shall be carried out in accordance with company policies, procedures and work instructions and where conflict may occur it is their responsibility to escalate as necessary to Director level or discuss with the assigned production area(s). They shall provide technical support across the business, either through self or through appropriate delegation, often representing the company from a detailed technical perspective where called upon to do so, liaising with other departments as necessary, whilst providing feedback and obtaining escalation support and approval through the Head of Special Projects and Engineering, the Managing Director of Score Energy or the board as required.

  • Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with company policies, procedures, standards and work instructions.
  • Manage the Engineering team in a manner to support the technical requirements of the Score Energy business, covering all aspects of department management from personnel development through to discipline and guidance.
  • Overseeing and co-ordinating all Engineering related work within the department.
  • Overall responsibility for the allocation and co-ordination of all work being processed through the Engineering department.
  • Prepare for and participate in meetings as requested, providing detailed support and guidance on technical issues arising / requesting support on.
  • Participate in project and technical meetings as required either through own initiation in support of assigned projects or at request of other areas.
  • Liaise with others within the division and possibly the Group, as requested, in support of technical queries and investigations, including providing leadership to technical investigations and developments where requested to do so. Providing top level signatory to technical queries and investigations.
  • Ensuring the creation of and provision of advice / approval of Technical Bulletins and other technical instructions and reports as required.
  • Ensuring the satisfactory completion of engineering calculations, their review and approval as requested.
  • Ensuring Technical report creation and top level approval as required.
  • Ensuring Technical drawing top level approval by self or through appropriate delegation.
  • Lead and manage, or ensure appropriate delegated lead, on internal Engineering Projects as assigned from the business
    Assist the Head of Special Projects and Engineering with providing technical support and guidance across the business, including Score Group companies as appropriately requested to do so.
  • Provide Technical support on customer related issues as required.
  • Work closely with the Head of Special Projects and Engineering for specific projects and business and product development.
  • Any other reasonable duties as required to meet the needs of the business.
  • Responsible for general housekeeping within the department and surrounding areas.
  • Work within the company’s policies, procedures, operating standards and work instructions.
  • Maintain a safe working environment to avoid risks to self and others.
  • Proactively participate and encourage others to participate in company HSEQ initiatives.
  • Reporting and investigating accidents / incidents and near misses.
  • Lead regular team and tool-box talks to discuss HSEQ issues, within Engineering team and Business level discussions.
  • Participation and involvement in Company wide Safety Initiatives.
  • Awareness of customer driven HSEQ initiatives.
  • Promote open communication, support change and support team leaders, managers and directors in a positive manner.
  • Participate in required training courses and instructions driving own competency level to fulfil and develop role and technical competency; ensuring competency framework is kept up to date accordingly. This may include CPD in furthering new technologies knowledge acquisition.
  • Provide support and / or lead technical training initiatives where required / competent to do so.
  • Support and participate in continual improvement initiatives requiring technical input.
  • Carry out tool box talks as necessary on Technically directed activities.
  • Positive approach to completing training modules.
  • Mentoring and coaching staff as required, carrying out appraisals, and dealing with any employment related concerns as required.
  • Engineering Degree with relevant experience in engineering practices.
  • Holding or in the process of obtaining Chartered Engineer Status (preferable).
  • The individual shall have a good understanding and competency in Engineering Theory and Practices and in particular the management of Engineering Resources and employees.
  • The individual should have a suitable level of Engineering management that includes a detailed understanding of standard engineering processes such as stress analysis, fluid dynamics, and the use of process tools such as Solid Works, 3D modelling, and Finite Element Analysis. Suitable experience in defect analysis and investigations is required.
  • The individual will preferably have a working appreciation of gas turbine engines, their technology and constituent parts, including repair procedures and new manufacture of components.
  • The individual will preferably hold Chartered Engineer level or will be at a level such that application would not unreasonably be expected to be attained
