Graduate Apprenticeship: Business Management/Procurement (Peterhead, Scotland)

Overview

  • Graduate Apprenticeship duration: 4 years
  • The majority of your time will be spent in a working environment, with occasional attendance at university
  • You will be allocated a mentor within the company

Experience and skills you will gain/Typical responsibilities

You will initially shadow a member of our procurement team before taking responsibility for tasks such as planning, process improvement and data analysis and supply quality and development. In the final year, you will carry out strategic procurement and supply chain management.

Year 1

During year 1 you will gain an understanding of:

  • The business environment
  • Company structure
  • Business functions
  • Governance and law
  • Core values and ethics
  • The role of HR
  • An introduction to financial and management accounting, which can be applied to practical business situations

Year 2

During year 2 you will broaden your analytical skills and gain an understanding of:

  • The scope of management operations
  • Business development
  • Marketing and sales
  • Operational strategies
  • The principles of procurement
  • The significance of collaboration in supply chain management
  • Key sources of finance
  • Basic financial concepts and their application to practical business situations

Year 3

During year 3 your ability to critically analyse management practices will increase and you will heighten your understanding of:

  • Project management
  • Purpose
  • Business tools and techniques
  • Risk and compliance management
  • The management of change
  • The impact of organisational development models
  • Digital business and data analysis
  • The principles of cyber security
  • The management of IT systems

Year 4

You will undertake extended study and research into a specialist area of management in a work-based, business-related topic. Through this you will study:

  • The impact of external environmental forces on contemporary strategic thinking
  • Strategic decision-making in specific organisational settings
  • Principal concepts of innovation
  • Drivers within business, society and economy

Entry Requirements

Our preferred applicants will hold a minimum of:

  • 4 x B at Higher including English and a Business Studies, Accounting or other business-related subject
  • HNC Business Management

Selection Process

As part of the selection process applicants that meet the above entry requirements will be invited to undertake an aptitude test. Successful applicants will then be taken forward to the next stage of the selection process.
