Qualifications you will work towards
- SVQ Level 2 – Performing Engineering Operations
- A National Certificate (NC) qualification
- A Higher National Certificate (HNC) as a minimum
- Potential courses such as CNC operations and programming
- Possible offshore training
- The opportunity to gain accreditation through the Institution of Mechanical Engineers
Experience you will gain
You will be supported each step of the way to develop your skills and knowledge in a wide variety of industrial machines, and the repair and manufacture of an extensive range of valve components.
Typical responsibilities
Typical responsibilities include manufacturing, the use of hand tools, understanding materials, machining, and hand fitting techniques, use of manual lathe and milling machines, and programming and safe operations. You will become proficient in the safe operation of a variety of lathe and milling machines, carrying our repair work scopes, and manufacturing a range of valve components and associated equipment.
Entry requirements
Our preferred applicants will hold the following qualifications:
- National 5 or equivalent in Mathematics and English
- National 5 or equivalent in two from the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Graphical Communications, Art and Design, Computing, Craft and Design, Engineering Science or a relevant Skills for Work qualification
An applicant with a Foundation Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering will have deemed to meet all the above criteria.
Selection process
Applicants that meet the above entry requirements will be invited to undertake an aptitude test. Successful applicants will then be taken forward to the next stage of the selection process.
