Employees Score Top Engineering Accreditations
Eight Score employees achieved Engineering accreditations for their competence and expertise in the engineering industry during 2021/2022.
Through hard work and commitment, Darren Archer, Steve Kjervold, Sam Buchan, Craig Noble, and Greg Smedley have each been recognised with the prestigious CEng qualification, with Neil Burgess and Samantha Buchanan receiving their IEng qualification, by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).
The employees embarked on the four-year course to gain the internationally recognised accreditations through demonstrating key competences outlined by the Engineering Council. From developing solutions to complex engineering problems, using new or existing technologies, and by showcasing innovation, creativity and technical analysis, the eight employees proved their academic knowledge was worthy of accreditation.
UK Engineering manager, Mark Allan, who has worked at Score Europe in Peterhead for 22 years, praised the employees and said their efforts throughout the course were commendable.
Mark said; “It’s a great achievement and one that deserves to be recognised. They have worked really hard to gain their Professional registrations.”
In the UK, Score offers Graduate Engineers the opportunity to pursue a four-year Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), accredited Monitored Professional Development Scheme (MPDS) dedicated training plan.
Across the four years, the employees are given a structured course, which includes rotations in different areas within Score. Mark explained the benefits for those on the training plan being able to move between the various departments.
“The Graduates are able to gain valuable experience working in the different departments and meeting lots of Score employees. They spend some time working in the workshops, in sales, the drawing office and with HSE for example, which allows them to learn about all the products and understand all aspects of the business – as well as the engineering industry itself.”
Score Canada Engineering Manager, Scott McBey and UK Account Manager, Alexander Lorgen were the first Score employees to enroll on the MPDS course over 13 years ago.
Mark said Score will be recruiting new Graduates in the Spring, and said the success story of the eight employees gaining their Professional registrations will hopefully encourage new Graduates to apply for the Scheme.
“Our Graduate Scheme has been going for many years and continues to be a leading development focused course. Hopefully, when Graduates read about the achievements of our employees gaining their Professional registrations, it will inspire new Graduates to sign-up,”
Since 1982, recruiting and developing individuals has been a fundamental part of Score. The Company has created highly skilled, knowledgeable and experienced teams, who are not only motivated, but who want to grow alongside the business.
With technology ever evolving in today’s engineering industry, Mark described how Score aims to stay in the lead when it comes to the Company’s engineering works.
“It’s important to keep up-to-date with the latest technologies as it moves so fast,”
“Solving problems to complex issues is at the heart of what our engineers do and everyone loves to have something they can get their teeth into, and work hard at. Our Professional Engineers thrive to develop solutions to engineering problems using new or existing technologies, through innovation and creativity. They each show the highest level of competence, dedication and consciences in their work, and they are great people.”
“They all work hard and they deserve to be recognised, especially for achieving their Professional registrations.”
He added: “The training offered through Score is successful in terms of developing engineers and giving them valuable experience within the industry. As a result of this, they then become valuable people who build great teams, and ultimately, they are great people to have within the Company.”
In addition to the Professional registrations, Martin Burgess, Engineering Manager of Score Europe, deserves to be recognised after he was upgraded from Member to Fellow with his IMechE membership.
