Score Completes First Major Valve Outage at Drax Power Station
Score has completed its first major outage at Drax Power Station in North Yorkshire, delivering a 12-week valve outage on Unit 1 in support of its client, Altrad.
Drax Power Station is the UK’s largest renewable power station, providing around 5% of the UK’s electricity and 10% of its renewable power. The site employs around 1,000 people directly and supports 3,450 jobs across Yorkshire and the Humber, making it a strategically important asset for UK energy security.
With less than three weeks’ notice, Altrad approached Score to carry out the outage. Score mobilised 12 valve technicians, 3 supervisors and QA engineers to site within that window, peaking at 19 people to meet the demands of the outage programme.
Why Score delivered
Score’s response drew on its ability to mobilise a full-service, on-site capability at short notice. The site set-up included a pressure safety valve (PSV) portable workshop, fully kitted workshop containers, lapping machines, a test bay and torquing equipment, enabling over 200 valves to be tested and certified on site, with a further 14 pilot valves overhauled off-site. All valves were returned to “as new” quality standards, commended by both Altrad and Drax.
“Score’s Brighouse facility drew on support from our global headquarters in Peterhead to mobilise the expertise Drax and Altrad needed at short notice and deliver for our customer,” said Scott Will, Business Unit Director – Europe & Africa.
“We contacted Score at short notice for support, they attended site the next day with a specialist team and rose to the challenge. The quality and professionalism of the Score technicians and management teams were impressive. The tools and equipment they provided, along with the quality systems, reports and documentation, were excellent and recognised by Altrad and Drax engineers,” said David Seaman, Regional Commercial Manager (Thermal), Altrad.
This outage adds to Score’s track record as a trusted partner for critical maintenance support across the power generation sector.
