The Business Support Apprenticeship includes spending the first year “off the job” at the training providers facility undertaking an NC in a Business-Related Subject on a day release basis. The other 4 days per week the apprentice will be building initial work experience in the allocated department. After the initial period, the apprentice will be allocated a competency framework to work towards which details specific tasks that are required for the role. On completion of these tasks to a consistent level the apprentice is signed off and their competency profile is improved.
Typical tasks include management of communications, emails & telephone calls, compiling and updating of reports on job progress and status. Processing data on our various computer-based systems for tracking status and managing targets. Working with and building relationships with various departments and team members to ensure a smooth operation and accurate record keeping.
During year 2 you will undertake an SVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in a business discipline to suit your role. This will involve you working with limited support on the tasks you are competent on and demonstrating to an assessor in the workplace you are confident, efficient, and able to undertake these tasks proficiently. You will build a portfolio of evidence.
These positions are available in a range of settings within Score Group:
HSE – Working within the HSE Team you will assist in the smooth operation of the department. The main responsibilities will include; Supporting the completion of HSE inspections, audit reports and reporting on the actions and non-conformances within the Q-Pulse system. Monitoring and reporting on statutory inspections and records, Risk assessment and BASIX deployment and reviewing Legislative Compliance etc. Conducting analysis on HSE Performance and Collating monthly data on key performance indicators. There will also be a requirement to support HSE Meetings with preparing presentations and taking meeting minutes. The role will involve building effective working relationships with the HSE team, Departmental Team Leaders and Representatives of Employee Safety.
IT – Working within the IT Team you will assist in the smooth operation of the department. The main responsibilities will include; Providing front line service desk support to customers, ensuring actions are processed in a timely manner and ensuring customer satisfaction. Sourcing of IT equipment and software, and review of customer budgets against service level agreements. Creation and update on IT hub articles, work instructions and guides. Conducting analysis on IT service performance and collating monthly/quarterly data on key performance indicators. There will also be a requirement to support IT Meetings with preparing presentations and taking meeting minutes. The role will involve building effective working relationships with the IT team and the customer.
Logistics and Materials – Focus on the support of our logistics operation ensuring accuracy of information help on file and updating status and tracking of parts and materials. A level head and good attention to detail is important in this role.
Production Support – Focusing on the support of our production management teams that look after our workshops and their team members. This role involves compiling status reports and targets, monitoring, and reporting on resource usage, attending, and recording of production meetings and reporting on action status. Compiling presentations on production information. Tracking and monitoring of financial status, purchase order and invoicing compilation and tracking. Those who are well organised and able to demonstrate initiative would suit this role
Client Services - Focusing on the support of the client services team made up of account managers, focal points, and sales personnel. The role will include supporting the accuracy of information presented to the client, updating job status on our database, tracking and monitoring job status. Compiling reports and presentations, supporting the contract review process and tendering processes. A good team player with an aptitude to work in a client facing role would suit this route.
Quality Services – Working with the Quality business unit the role includes compilation and tracking of QA cards, Job packs, certification packs and ensuring full traceability of job parts, spares, and repairs. Supporting the QA Inspectors and the Auditing processes to ensure the QA policy is effectively implemented throughout the company. Accuracy of record keeping and understanding of business processes would be advantageous, although training will be given.

As part of the Welding Apprenticeship each apprentice will spend the first year “off the job” at the training providers facility undertaking the SVQ Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations at SCQF Level 5 and the relevant National Certificate qualification. During this period, you will learn new skills including fabrication, welding, use of hand tools, understanding drawings and engineering communication. From years 2 to 4 apprentices will be given an increasing responsibility for their own work. You will work as part of a team meeting the overall needs of the client on a wide variety of products and components within your department. Your academic training will extend to NC (National Certificate) as a minimum with the potential to develop to HNC level if required. Through year 5 you will be given opportunities to undertake a range of industrial coding grades to suit the needs of the department and our client base.
What skills will I Learn?
The new skills you will learn include fabrication and welding, use of hand tools, understanding drawings and engineering communication. You will build skills and knowledge on our welding procedures/practices and develop a wide variety of other skills necessary for you to complete welding/fabrication work scopes to a high-level including use of overhead cranes, banksman slinger training and welder coding as required.

As part of the Instrumentation, Control and Electrical (ICE) apprenticeship, each trainee spends 3 or 4 days per week during the first year with a training provider, undertaking the Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations at Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) Level 5 and the relevant National Certificate (NC) qualification. The remaining 1 or 2 days per week are spent in the workplace, developing skills and knowledge.
During this period, you will develop new skills, including practical vocational based training in electrical installation (BS 7671 standards), electrical equipment maintenance, electronic assembly and testing and programmable logic controllers – inclusive of basic automation, forming and assembling electrical cable enclosure and support systems.
From years 2 to 4 you will be given a variety of maintenance, repair and manufacturing tasks. Initially, you will shadow a qualified ICE technician until you have reached the required level of competency on each task. As you progress, the tasks will become more complex extending to; repair and manufacture of PLC control systems, pneumatic systems, pressure test cells and other workshop equipment. You will also be exposed to the modification and improvement of various Score owned equipment such as nozzle flow rigs, PT rigs and gas turbine test cells, as required in line with changing business needs. The team also constructs new and modified customer and OEM bespoke legacy Turbine control systems. Your academic training will extend to Higher National Certificate (HNC) level as a minimum. Your experience will be supplemented by additional work-based training courses.
By the end of year 4 you will have achieved your Modern Apprenticeship (MA) and will embark on additional training and development to include specialist experience, allowing you to develop your problem-solving abilities. The maintenance team may be requested to travel to other Score sites to fit out and equip facilities as company operations expand. These opportunities allow individuals to visit other sites, whilst building confidence and experiencing working away from home. Initially, apprentices will be buddied up with senior technicians before working at client premises. You will grow in confidence and ability during this phase, allowing you to qualify as an Engineering Technician.
What skills will I Learn?
You will be supported each step of the way to develop your skills and knowledge on a wide variety of Instrumentation, Control and Electrical work scopes. As you gain experience you will increase in confidence and ability and be able to handle more sophisticated tasks, becoming more independent in your application of our tried and tested techniques. There will be opportunities to develop your competency working with electronic, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic and pressurised systems. By the end of your training period, you will be proficient in carrying out Instrumentation, Control and Electrical tasks; assessing the condition of a wide variety of specialist equipment, carrying out repair, manufacture and refurbishment and conducting re-assembly and testing operations to industry standard.

As part of the IT apprenticeship, each trainee will receive on-the job training from the outset, whilst attending college on a part-time basis to gain a variety of qualifications.
Year 1
You will attend a further education establishment obtaining a National Certificate (NC) in Computing at Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) Level 6.
For 2 days per week you will undertake on-the-job training in the Score Group IT department, gaining practical experience working in Helpdesk Level 1.
Years 2-3
You will attend college on a day release basis. You will obtain a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in computing (SCQF Level 7).
For 4 days per week you will undertake on the job training in the Score Group IT department. You will spend time working in IT Helpdesk Levels 1 and Level 2, IT Infrastructure, IT Applications and IT Security Operations. Spending the first few years working in the team is crucial to building the foundations for a career in IT and allows you to build an in-depth understanding of the IT environment within Score Group.
Years 4-5
You will attend the workplace 5 days per week, whilst gaining industry recognised certifications.
Depending on criteria met over the previous 3 years, you may have the opportunity to go on day release at college to attain a Higher National Diploma (HND) certification (SCQF Level 8) whilst working 4 days per week.
In the final 2 years of your apprenticeship, you will be assigned to a specific IT team in order to specialise your IT skills.
You will have the opportunity to gain Professional Membership with the British Computer Society – MBCS.

All Machinist Apprentices spend the first year “off the job” at the training providers facility undertaking the SVQ Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations at SCQF Level 5 and the relevant National Certificate qualification. During this period, you will learn new skills including manufacturing, use of hand tools, understanding materials, machining, and hand fitting techniques, use of manual lathe and milling machines. From years 2 to 4 you will be given placements in the companies machining repair workshop with an increasingly wide variety of work scopes on various manual machines. As your development continues, you will be given training and support in operating CNC machines including programming and safe operations. By the time you complete your 4-year MA you will be proficient in safe operations of a wide range of lathe and milling machines, carrying our repair work scopes, manufacturing of a multitude of valve components and associated equipment.
Your academic training will extend to HNC as a minimum. Your experience will be supplemented by additional work-based training courses including but not restricted to Manual Handling, Banksman Slinger and Gantry Crane Operator.
By the end of year 4 you will have achieved your Modern Apprenticeship. You will embark on further training and development which includes specialist experience. This extends your problem-solving ability and enhances your MA training through potential courses including CNC operations and programming. As Score increase our capacity to offer on-site machining capability, the addition of MIST and survival training allows you to benefit from: offshore experiences or work at offsite locations. The machine shop may offer a day and night shift rota for those interested in benefiting from additional shift allowances. You will grow in confidence and ability during this phase allowing you to qualify as EngTech on our accredited route via IMechE.

You will be supported each step of the way in developing your skills and knowledge on a wide variety of industrial machines, allowing you to develop skills in repair and manufacture of an extensive range of valve components. This apprenticeship suits individuals that get a buzz from problem solving, working independently and making components from raw materials to a required specification. As you gain experience you will increase in confidence and ability and be able to handle more sophisticated work scopes becoming independent in your application of our tried and tested techniques.

The Mechanical Maintenance Apprenticeship includes spending the first year “off the job” at the training providers facility undertaking the SVQ Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations at SCQF Level 5 and the relevant National Certificate qualification. During this period, you will develop new skills including manufacturing, use of hand tools, understanding materials, machining, and hand fitting techniques. From years 2 to 4 you will be given a variety of maintenance tasks, initially shadowing a qualified journeyman you have reached a level of competency on each of the required tasks. As you progress the tasks become more complex extending to; maintenance and inspection of overhead cranes; pneumatic systems and equipment; pressure test cells and other workshop equipment necessary for our production teams to effectively carry out their work scopes. You will also be exposed to modification and improvement of various Score owned equipment as necessary to meet the changing needs of the business. The fleet of offshore mobile workshops are controlled via the maintenance team and these each need inspected, checked, and refitted on each return from hire. The team also construct new and modified mobile workshops to meet department and client needs. Your academic training will extend to HNC as a minimum. Your experience will be supplemented by additional work-based training courses included but not restricted to Manual Handling, Basic Valve Knowledge, Banksman Slinger, Gantry Crane Operator and Pressure Testing. There may also be a need for additional welding qualifications and coding.
By the end of year 4 you will have achieved your Modern Apprenticeship and will embark on additional training and development to include specialist experience, allowing you to develop problem-solving abilities and build on your MA training through potential courses. These may include, torque and tensioning, pressure safety valve and MJI training. The maintenance team will be requested to travel to other Score sites to fit out workshops and other equipment as we expand our operations. These opportunities allow individuals to visit other sites as well as being away from home for a few weeks at a time to build confidence and life experiences. Apprentices will be buddied up with senior technicians initially then work at other client premises or other Score worldwide locations. You will grow in confidence and ability during this phase, allowing you to qualify as EngTech on our accredited route via IMechE.

The Stores and Logistics Apprenticeship is a 3-year programme. Apprentices spend an initial period working on the job, with a designated buddy. The buddy will guide and instruct on the necessary operations and tasks to help build knowledge and understanding of company warehousing operations procedures and practices. The apprentice will be responsible for maintaining a logbook record of their development and competency.
As the apprentice progresses, they will be given responsibility for set workplace tasks, to build confidence and continue development. These tasks will increase in complexity as the apprentice continues to progress. When the apprentice is ready, they will undertake an SVQ in Warehousing and Storage (SCQF Level 5) and the relevant core skills. This work-based assessment programme is normally undertaken between years 1 and 2 of the 3-year programme. The apprentice will complete additional short training courses including manual and mechanical handling, counterbalance forklift operations, reach truck operations, START Card and Risk assessment training. By the end of the 3-year programme, the apprentice will gain a Modern Apprenticeship in Warehousing and Logistics Operations.
Opportunities for additional responsibilities may arise in time. This could begin with taking full responsibility for a particular section of racking or even a whole area or facility. Opportunities for promotion could include roles such as Supervisor, Deputy Team Leader, Team Leader and Manager. The company has a proud history training young people and many of our apprentices have gone on to work in senior roles throughout the company.
What skills will I Learn?
You will be supported to develop your skills and knowledge on a wide variety of warehousing and logistics operations and technologies. As you gain experience, you will increase in confidence and ability and be able to handle more sophisticated work scopes; becoming more independent in the application of tried and tested techniques. You will gain working experience in stores receipts, goods in/out, stores issues, warehouse storage and racking, forklift/reach truck operations as well as training on our IT system to monitor and control stock levels. Over time, you will be given opportunities to take responsibility for specific areas of our logistics operations. This career is well-suited to those with good organisational skills, attention to detail, and ability to follow verbal and written instructions. This role offers an excellent alternative to a technical apprenticeship, whilst still working in a technical environment.

The Technical Services Apprenticeship includes spending the first year “off the job” at the training provider's facility undertaking the SVQ Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations at SCQF Level 5 and the relevant National Certificate qualification. During this period, you will develop new skills including manufacturing, use of hand tools, understanding materials, machining, and hand fitting techniques. This gives the apprentice a sound engineering grounding and good understanding of the practical workshop setting. From years 2 to 4 you will be given a 6-month rotation between practical valve departments and the technical support departments. This mix of office based, and workshop-based experiences ensures the apprentice is well versed in the valve product from a practical standpoint and the technical support requirements to maintain good communications and working relations with our clients. The role includes front line support of our clients.
By the end of year 4 you will have achieved your Modern Apprenticeship and will embark on additional training and development to include specialist experience, allowing you to develop problem-solving abilities and build on your MA training through potential courses. These may include torque and tensioning and pressure safety valve courses. The technical services team will build your confidence and work you towards the role of Project Engineer where you will be a key contact for our client base and take on responsibility of the specific parts of the client contract. You will qualify as Eng Tech on our accredited route via IMechE.

You will be supported each step of the way in developing your skills and knowledge on a wide variety of office based and practical workshop work scopes. As you gain experience you will increase in confidence and ability and be able to handle more sophisticated tasks and become more independent in your application of our tried and tested techniques. By the end of your training period, you will be proficient in conducting practical workshop tasks, assessing the condition of a wide variety of specialist equipment, carrying out repair and refurbishment, conducting re-assembly and testing operations to industrial standards, as well as proficient in handling problems and planning work scopes, monitoring contractual obligations and engaging with our clients to support their requirements.

As part of the Drawing Office Apprenticeship each apprentice will spend the first year “off the job” at the training providers facility undertaking the SVQ Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations at SCQF Level 5 and the relevant National Certificate qualification. During this period, you will learn new skills including manufacturing, use of hand tools, understanding drawings and engineering communication. From years 2 to 4 apprentices will be given placements for 9 months per year in the drawing office developing skills and knowledge on our company procedures, software tools, and necessary documentation. Followed by 3 months in a practical workshop setting, where your practical and product knowledge can be developed and the opportunity to be immersed in the physical aspects of the dismantling, inspection, repair, assembly and testing tasks can be undertaken. This 3-month period ensures that your ability in the drawing office is first class, as you have not just observed these components and equipment from an office standpoint but have an in-depth understanding which enhances your ability and value in the drawing office. Your academic training will extend to HNC as a minimum.
Year 5 will allow you to build on your Modern Apprenticeship qualifications, extending to HND/Degree if desired or working on special projects to suit the needs of the department and our clients. Completing the 5-year programme allows you to qualify as an Engineering Technician with the IMechE and use the EngTech suffix after your name.
What skills will I Learn?
The new skills you will learn include manufacturing, use of hand tools, understanding drawings and engineering communication. You will build skills and knowledge on our CAD (Computer Aided Draughting) and software packages and learn our procedures/practices for carrying out and verifying accurate information to the required standards.
Your practical workshop experience for 3 months per year during years 2 to 4 will enhance your skills and ability, helping you to develop a deep understanding of the products and components that you will be generating electronically using CAD packages. You will become competent in CAD drawing and office practices and gain a SQV Level 3 qualification in Engineering Technical Support: Drawing Office as well as extend to HNC level as a minimum.

As part of the QA/QC Apprenticeship each apprentice will spend the first year “off the job” at the training providers facility undertaking the SVQ Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations at SCQF Level 5 and the relevant National Certificate qualification. During this period, you will learn new skills including manufacturing, use of hand tools, understanding drawings, engineering communication, and working efficiently and effectively both individually and as part of a team. From years 2 to 4 apprentices will be given placements for 9 months in a variety of quality assurance or quality control functions, developing skills and knowledge on our company procedures, software tools, and necessary documentation for controlling and tracking work scopes from conception to delivery and aftersales services. For 3 months per year, you will be placed in a practical workshop setting, where your practical and product knowledge can be developed. This provides an opportunity to be immersed in the physical aspects of the dismantling, inspection, repair, assembly and testing tasks. These 3-month periods ensures that your ability in the QA/QC role is enhanced, as you have not just observed these components and equipment from a QA/QC standpoint but have an in-depth understanding which heightens your ability and value in the quality team. Your academic training will extend to HNC as a minimum.
Year 5 will allow you to build on your MA qualifications, extending to HND/Degree if desired or working on special projects to suit the needs of the department and our clients. Completing the 5-year programme allows you to qualify as an Engineering Technician with the IMechE and use the EngTech suffix after your name.
What skills will I Learn?
The new skills you will learn include manufacturing, use of hand tools, understanding drawings and engineering communication. You will build skills and knowledge on our sales, repair, and engineering services, our procedures/practices and develop a wide variety of other skills necessary for you to complete complex QA/QC work scopes to a high level. You will be qualified to SVQ Level 3 in Technical Support and the minimum HNC. The additional 1 year post apprenticeship experience allows you to gain professional recognition as an Engineering Technician through our accredited IMechE scheme.

All Valve Technician Apprentices spend the first year “off the job” at the training providers facility undertaking the SVQ Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations at SCQF Level 5 and the relevant National Certificate qualification. During this period, you will learn new skills including manufacturing, use of hand tools, understanding materials, machining, and hand fitting techniques. From years 2 to 4 you will be given placements for 12 months in a general valve department on a rotational basis. In these departments you will learn the basic functions of each valve type, common failure modes, how to safely strip and inspect each valve type as well as how to assemble and test the finished valve to the correct standards. Your academic profile will extend to HNC as a minimum. Your experience will be supplemented by additional work-based training courses including but not restricted to Manual Handling, Basic Valve Knowledge, Banksman Slinger, Gantry Crane Operator and Pressure Testing.
By the end of year 4 you will have achieved your Modern Apprenticeship. You will embark on additional training and development to include specialist experience. This allowing you to gain complex problem-solving abilities. Your MA training will be enhanced through potential courses including torque, tensioning, pressure safety valve and MJI training which is required for our offshore work scopes. MIST and survival training allow you to benefit from offshore experiences, work at other client premises or other Score worldwide locations. You will grow in confidence and ability during this phase, allowing you to qualify as an EngTech on our accredited route via IMechE.

As you gain experience you will increase in confidence and ability enabling you to handle more sophisticated work scopes becoming more independent in your application of our tried and tested techniques. As your ability and therefore value to the company’s operation increases, you will be given opportunities to travel if your wish, to other locations including offshore and overseas. By the end of your training period, you will be proficient in assessing the condition of a wide variety of valve technologies and equipment, carrying out repairs and refurbishments, conducting re-assembly and testing operations to industrial standards.

The Non-Destructive Examination Apprenticeship is a 5-year programme. Apprentices spend their time working in the Non-Destructive Examination department, completing on-the-job training whilst building knowledge and understanding of a variety of specialist examination and testing methods. They will also work towards academic qualifications and professional certifications. The apprentice will be responsible for maintaining a logbook record of their development and competency.
As the apprentice progresses, they will be given responsibility for set workplace tasks, to build confidence and continue development. These tasks will increase in complexity as the apprentice continues to progress. During years 1 and 2, the apprentice will attend college on day release, working towards the National Certificate (NC) in Measurement and Control. As part of the programme, the apprentice will also complete Personnel Certification in Non-Destructive Testing (PCN) Level 2 qualifications in the following disciplines:
The apprentice will complete additional in-house training on areas including positive material identification, ferrite testing, hardness testing and calibration.
Off-site training with a Level 3 Non-Destructive Examination technician will take place each year.
By the end of the 5-year programme, the apprentice will gain a Modern Apprenticeship in Non-Destructive Examination (NDE)
Opportunities for additional responsibilities may arise in time. Opportunities for promotion could include roles such as Supervisor, Deputy Team Leader, Team Leader and Manager. What skills will I Learn?
You will be supported to develop your skills and knowledge on a wide variety of specialist examination and testing methods. As you gain experience, you will increase in confidence and ability and be able to handle more sophisticated projects, becoming more independent in the application of tried and tested techniques. You will gain working experience in the specialist examination and testing of equipment, materials, and components, looking for surface and subsurface cracks, fractures, and imperfections, or carrying out material identification techniques. You will carry out procedures in dye penetrant inspection, magnetic particle inspection, ultrasonic, radiography and positive material identification, being trained to international and accredited standards on all methods. You will also carry out hardness testing, ferrite testing, overlay thickness monitoring and water analysis.
This career is well-suited to those with attention to detail, an interest in science subjects and with a keen interest in developing their technical understanding and ability.

As part of this graduate apprenticeship (GA) the successful applicant will spend the first year shadowing a senior member of the procurement team, based in Peterhead. As their job knowledge increases, they will be given responsibility for a wide variety of tasks to ensure the smooth running of the department.
Throughout years 2-4 the work exposure and responsibilities will extend to include planning, process improvement and data analysis and supply quality and development. In the final year, the scope will extend to strategic procurement and supply chain management in support of our global operation this could lead to increased opportunities to travel.
The apprentice will undertake the 4-year BA (Hons) Business Management degree with Robert Gordon University. Although the course is flexible and you will spend the majority of your time in a working environment, you will on occasion be required to attend the university campus. A mentor will be allocated to support you alongside your immediate supervisor within the department.

The degree is delivered as a work-based qualification in line with the university timetable. As part of your course, you will be required to attend the university campus for 4-6 days per academic year. Throughout years 2-4 you will be given placements in various Score departments to suit our operational needs and the subjects being delivered by Robert Gordon University. A mentor will be allocated to support you alongside your immediate supervisor within the department.

The apprentice will build knowledge of Score’s engineering services and undertake tasks and projects within their competency. These tasks will be extended as the GA progresses. Those completing the programme will be skilled to undertake technical risk assessment and method statements for both onshore and offshore work scopes and be able to calculate correct properties for a wide variety of valve components and accessories. There will be the opportunity to assist in manufacturing processes and procedures, correctly designing, documenting and reporting on valve and component modification and upgrade. The apprentice will also undertake failure investigations to ascertain root cause and make recommendations for improvement to suit the needs of our client base.

As part of this graduate apprenticeship the successful applicant will spend their time working with the accounts department at our Peterhead Head Quarters. The delivery format of the degree involves working on the job in the accounts office while undertaking the stages of the 5-year BA(Hons) Accounting partnership with Score and Robert Gordon University. The degree is delivered as a work-based qualification in line with the timetable of the university. There will be “on campus” days in which the apprentice must attend the business school at Aberdeen for 4-8 days per academic year. This will be supplemented by online activates, webinars, discussion forums, and ongoing workplace delivery and experience. Through years 2-4 you will be given placements in various Score accounting functions to suit our operational needs and the subjects being delivered by Robert Gordon University. Each apprentice will be allocated a mentor and supervisor to support their development.
