ENGINEERING & MECHANICAL
Year 1
Trainees undertake an intense learning programme to achieve their Performing Engineering Operations (PEO) Level 2. The focus of the first year of the apprenticeship is on the basics of Engineering, Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Systems applied within the organisation.
Year 2-3
Upon completion of year 1 and attainment of the PEO Level 2, the apprentices progress to years 2 & 3 of the apprenticeship where they commence work and on the job training. Trainees are given the opportunity to work within various departments within the company. These two years will result in completion of a National Certificate (NC) subject to begin integration into a Higher National Certificate (HNC) Level of study towards a relevant Engineering discipline.
Year 4
This consists of Technician Training during which the company continue to support and invest in the trainee’s continued development. Training at this stage is tailored to meet the needs of the individual and the organisation by applying a continuous professional development philosophy.
During this time trainees achieve their HNC in Engineering or Engineering Practice and Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) Level 3 in a subject relevant to their chosen career path.
Year 5-6
Enhanced training in specialist functions is given to trainees as they begin to move towards their probable career paths.
The format of the programme allows both individual and the company to identify and develop the trainee’s aptitudes in specific areas. There may also be the opportunity to attend university at this stage to obtain a relevant Engineering Degree.

The apprenticeship at Hycrome is currently a 4-year Training Scheme.
The apprentices for Hycrome recruit via Burnley College, they hold open evenings for students where Score and other companies attend.

Year 3
Upon successful completion of year 2, an apprentice then will be working towards a HNC Higher National Certificate. This consists of 4 days in the workshops and 1-day classroom learning each week. The training centre is Burnley College.
Year 4
The final year of the apprenticeship is where apprentices finish their HNC Higher National Certificate and complete the apprenticeship programme.
